Hello, dear readers! In anticipation of JASP 2025: Sensibility and Domesticity, this author will be joining fellow Jane Austen Collaborative team-members Na'dayah Pugh and Maizie Ferguson to co-host an all-new vlog series dissecting Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen's debut novel and the focal text of this year's summer symposium.
If you remember the Jane Eyre vlog series Na'dayah and I released last summer (which, by the way, is available to rewatch for free on JASP's YouTube channel!), you'll notice that the content for Sense and Sensibility looks a little different. For one thing, we will not discuss the novel chapter by chapter as one would in a book club. Instead, we will release weekly videos on topics ranging from suitors and romance to art, music, and literature referenced within the novel, discussing not only the book's history and textual material but also our own thoughts and feelings about the characters and story.
We encourage you to read (or reread) the novel alongside us, whether as a seasoned fan or first-time reader, and engage with our videos as much (or as little) as you like. Are you team "sense" or "sensibility"? Who is your favorite—or, alternatively, least favorite—of the novel's three distinct love interests? Which film or television adaptation is your go-to? Let us know in the comments section on YouTube!
For more information on format, content, and schedule, see our Sense and Sensibility vlog series introductory video below.
Again, we will be releasing episodes weekly on Tuesdays until June 3. Happy viewing!
